What this likely is
This appears to be a heuristic/generic antivirus classification that can occur with unsigned installer binaries and installer behaviors such as downloading optional dependencies during setup.
Our Windows installer currently uses Inno Setup and may download/install optional runtime components (for example: VC++ runtime, Perl, Python, spelling dictionaries) during installation, which can trigger heuristic detections in some engines.
For transparency
- The affected build is the published 2.18.0~pre2 prerelease line.
- We are reviewing and improving release trust signals, including signing and verification workflows.
- We are submitting false-positive reports to vendors where applicable.
What users can do right now
- Download only from official ZoiteChat release channels.
- Verify the published SHA-256 checksum before running the installer.
- If your endpoint protection blocks the file, wait for updated AV signatures and re-check after vendor review.
We take security reports seriously and will continue to publish updates as we complete validation and mitigation steps.
